In the Hero Mode of Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi, players are given the opportunity to create their own character from scratch. Players are also often challenged to flee from rather than battle opponents, who may also project Ki Blasts after them.
As Goku, for instance, players can traverse the world on the Nimbus Cloud or go accompanied by a second character such as Piccolo while fighting characters like Vegeta and Gohan. Outside of the game’s engaging battle system, there are several other ways to interact with the world and other characters. Travelling from one Story Objective to another as a playable character, players learn more about this universe and its inhabitants. Combined with scenes from the anime, along with animated boss scenes, this promises an experience of the Dragon Ball world like no other.
A free-roam style of gameplay allows players to explore the world at leisure. In the Story Mode of Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi, players progress through an immersive experience of the Dragon Ball universe, encountering and playing as iconic characters such as Goku and Vegeta in a range of settings that will be familiar to fans of the franchise. A health recovery system also enhances the gameplay. Controls have been streamlined for Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi on the PS3, making the game more accessible to a wider range of players while retaining the strategic dimension of its predecessors. Battlefields are satisfyingly destructible during combat, enhancing the sense of raw power and dynamic action with the Impact Break system, which allows players to leave craters in the ground and Kamehameha tracers across the sky as they battle opponents and project energy blasts. The game has a distinctive visual style that remains faithful to the recongizable style of Dragon Ball Z alongside immersive 3D environments. Take control of your favorite Dragon Ball Z (DBZ) characters in Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi, choosing from a wide selection that includes Goku, Burter, Cell, Dodoria, Gogeta, Gohan, Piccolo, Saibaman and Super Saiyan alternates, along with unlockable characters such as Captain Ginyu, Frieza, Janemba, Jeice, Trunks and Vegito.
The game was developed for the PS3 and Xbox 360 by Spike and published by Namco Bandai. Also released for the Xbox 360 and known in Japan as Dragon Ball: Ultimate Blast, the game has a solid following among fans of the anime and manga Super Saiyan action fighting franchise.
